New Haven Reads, Tutors Needed

Volunteers are needed!  New Haven Reads – which was discussed in a December 2011 post to this blog — is in great need of tutors for its after-school tutoring program for school-age children, both for substitute and more long-term volunteer positions:

“New Haven Reads provides all the training that is needed for our successful one-on-one program. No experience is necessary.  We are looking for people who have one hour a week that they can give to a child to share the joy and power of reading.  Please contact Keri Humphreys at or 203-752-1923.”

A December 2011 post noted that Cara Baruzzi – previously business editor at the New Haven Register –  had been named breaking news editor, as part of a “Digital First” reorganization.  Earlier last year, June 8 and May 20 blog posts recorded that she had joined the board of the Literacy Coalition and had launched its new Twitter presence, at

Now, Cara Baruzzi has become Secretary of the Coalition’s board.  She serves in a similar capacity for the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
