Reading and Summer Learning

Saturday, June 1st, 2013
The New Haven Register recently featured “Read(y) for the grade,” a summer reading-focused program that the NewAlliance Foundation is supporting at public libraries including that of New Haven.  Families, as well as young students themselves, will be involved.
Summer activity is one piece of “expanded learning time,” which if used well can contribute to gains in reading and beyond.
“Summer learning loss” is a recognized problem, a factor in achievement gaps.  “Summer Learning Day” is June 21.
