Save the Date: September 29 Forum on “Language, Bilingualism, and Literacy — in School and Beyond”

On Thursday, September 29 a Forum on “Language, Bilingualism, and Literacy — in School and Beyond” will feature Professor Ofelia Garcia (of the CUNY Graduate Center) as keynote presenter.  This is part of a Literacy Forum series in New Haven.

The event’s co-sponsors are expected to be the New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) and the Connecticut Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (CALAS), as well as the Literacy Coalition of Greater New Haven.  Abie Benitez, Ph.D. of the NHPS will moderate the panel.  Besides her as moderator and Professor García as keynote presenter, there will be two panelists:

   Miguel Cardona, Ed.D., assistant superintendent for teaching and learning in the Meriden Public Schools;

   Norine Polio, a longtime teacher of ESL/ESOL in the NHPS.

This event will be free of charge, with refreshments served.  It will be held after school, with timing and location details to be announced.
