Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven is a nonprofit educational organization that trains and supports volunteer tutors who provide free literacy tutoring for adults who need to improve their reading, writing, and oral communication skills. Both Basic Literacy tutoring and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) are offered. The goal is to increase the English language and life skills of adult students and their families so they can participate more fully in the economic and educational life of the community.
Founded in 1969, Junta for Progressive Action, Inc. (JUNTA) is the oldest Latino, community-based nonprofit organization in New Haven. Its mission is to provide services, programs and advocacy that improve the social, political and economic conditions of the Latino community in Greater New Haven, while nurturing and promoting its cultural traditions as it builds bridges with other communities.

Adult Education’s Goals:
Workforce Alliance, through its Board Members, Committees and Staff, works to improve the delivery of workforce services in close collaboration with business, education and training providers, and local elected officials. We serve the public through our four CTWorks Career Centers.

Read to Grow helps build children’s literacy right from the start. A statewide nonprofit organization, Read to Grow aims to motivate Connecticut parents to take an active role in their children’s literacy development beginning at birth and provides free children’s books to families and to the programs that serve them.

Adult Education’s Goals:
Concepts for Adaptive Learning (CfAL) has adopted a holistic framework for improving educational outcomes that includes projects and programs for students, educators, parents and the community. CfAL installs computers and computer-related equipment, integrates educational software in classrooms and homes, and trains teachers and parents.”
